Jaipur: Eleven cholera cases were reported from Kotputli area on Wednesday.
The fresh case of cholera along with a stream of diarrhoea patients at the BDM Hospital has shocked the health officials.
The number of patients reported at Kotputli has been increasing daily since past one week and authorities are still clueless about the exact cause of the problem.
"So far 11 cholera patients have been admitted at BDM Hospital. Now the situation has become alarming as the contamination problems have become manifold with waterlogging at many places in rural areas. Sanitation is also becoming a big issue now," a doctor at the BDM Hospital said.
About 29 water samples were found containing bacteria, said sources. Meanwhile food inspectors are checking the food articles being sold in the area and have also seized loads of tinned rasgulla in the Kotputli town. Principal secretary health, BN Sharma also visited Kotputli on Wednesday to assess the situation. Authorities are also keeping an eye on the water supply in the rural areas around Kotpulti from where the patients are being reported.
Since past one week more than 860 people have been admitted to the hospital. On the first day of the outbreak of water-borne disease on July 20 about 120 patients were admitted while more than 50 patients are coming to the hospital daily since then. Today 44 new patients were admitted to the hospital the sources said.
The district administration on Wednesday deputed a team of 40 doctors to conduct door-to-door survey of patients in 79 villages of the area. 12 specialist doctors have also been deputed at the BDM Hospital in Kotputli to manage the increasing number of patients while more than 100 paramedical staff have also been posted with the medical teams.
"We have not been able to come to any conclusion as to what kind of contamination is causing diarrhoea and cholera in such a large area. The exact cause of contamination is yet to be found," an official said.
