Blast in car kills two Bangaloreans

July 10, 2000, 15:58 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Two persons were killed and one was injured seriously in a powerful blast in a moving Maruti van in the city on Sunday night.

Police commissioner T Madiyal told newsmen here that the explosive device found in the car was similar to the one that exploded in a church. However he ruled out a link between the two explosions that occurred in a gap of about 30 minutes.

The van had a Goa registration number.

The impact of the blast was so severe that the bonnet of the car was ripped apart and was thrown some 200 metres away from the scene. Similarly one of the limbs of the person killed on the spot was found hanging on a nearby tree.

Police suspect the blast might have occurred when the speeding vehicle was negotiating a road hump.

While one person succumbed to injuries at the government Victoria Hospital, the other has been shifted to the St Johns Hospital and his condition is said to be serious.
