Manhunt launched to arrest sacked Yadav

July 10, 2000, 18:50 Hrs (IST)

Patna: Police said Bihar was being scoured to arrest sacked Minister of State for Cooperatives Lalit Kumar Yadav, who is accused of kidnapping and torturing a truck driver and cleaner.

Governor Vinod Chandra Pande accepted Chief Minister Rabri Devi's late night recommendation to drop Yadav from the council of ministers.

Director General of Police K A Jacob hoped that the sacked minister would be taken into custody soon and said steps will be initiated to attach Yadav's property to force him to surrender.

Speaker Sadanand Singh directed the state government to make a statement in the state assembly on the Yadav incident by Monday evening.

Leader of the Opposition Sushil Modi accused the government of not taking steps to arrest Yadav and demanded a statement. Modi said the driver should be immediately released in view of his daughter's coming marriage.
