Lucknow: Eleven persons were feared drowned when a boat carrying 40 passengers
capsized in the river Sharda in Pilibhit district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Twenty-
nine had been rescued so far, officials said.
"Twenty-nine villagers were rescued and 11 others are feared to have drowned in the
overflowing river," said V.K. Mittal, principle home secretary, Uttar Pradesh.
"The boat capsized due to excessive weight as it was carrying fertilizer bags as
well. Police divers are searching for the missing villagers," said the district
