Chennai: Do you have a good memory? You could be in the team of four to defend the
country's honour in the world championships.
Try your skill at the second National Memory Championships 2000 to be held here from
July 21 to 23.
The championship is being organised under the auspices of the Madras Academy for
Excellence (MAX) in association with the International Federation of Memory Sports in
London (IFMS).
Contestants will be tested by their ability to recall 5,000 words, 2,000 random-digit
numbers, the perpetual calendar, various provisions of the Income Tax Act, Civil
Procedure Code and the sequence in a shuffled deck of cards, competition convenor and
MAX director J N Reddy told newsmen on Monday.
Reddy said this year, the competition would include a unique 'memory dance'. The
competitors should suspend the rhythm to which they are dancing and resume after
answering memory-based questions.
The first three winners of the national championship would be conferred with the
titles : 'memory genius', 'memory wizard' and 'memory master'. All the three, and the
fourth, will be picked for the world championship to be held by IFMS next month.
A jury comprising Justice Gyanaprakasam, editor, Limca Book of Records, and N Ravi,
editor, 'The Hindu', would judge the winners, he said.
Such competitions are being held regularly only in the United States, Germany,
England and Austria, he added.
