Relatives of crash victims react in shock

July 17, 2000, 23:00 Hrs (IST)

Patna: Shell-shocked relatives of victims of the plane crash are in a traumatic state losing words to express shock, but displayed a strong anguish.

''I want the death certificate of my son without any delay since I have lost my son and that is my primary concern'', shouted an angry mother to the district magistrate of Patna soon after arrival from Calcutta by a special flight.

The relatives were simply interested in early completion of formalities and arrangements for the last journey of their diseased kith and kin.

Chief secretary Vijay Shanker Dubey was present at the morgue to facilitate completion of the formalities, and the district authorities were keen enough to ensure that the relatives of those killed did not face any inconvenience.

District magistrate Amit Khare said the identification of bodies was difficult as most of them were charred beyond recognition. He said identification problem was also delaying issuing of death certificates.

Officials at the spot said there were some problems being faced to arrange such a large number of coffins, but this would be overcome in the shortest possible time.
