July 28, 2000 00:01 Hrs (IST)

London: Chief Justice of India A S Anand, against whom criticism has been leveled by former union law minister Ram Jethmalani, cut short his week-long visit to the United Kingdom and returned to Delhi on Thursday.

The chief justice, who represented India at the conference on international law and human rights here, was scheduled to return on Sunday.

Jethmalani addressed a news conference in delhi on Thursday and brought into open his differences with Justice Anand on the issue of appointment of Justice B M Lal as the chairman of MRTPC and on a controversy involving the CJI's wife and mother-in-law who were allegedly favored by a Madhya Pradesh court in a suit.
