Order to attach Lalit Yadav’s property
R Ahmed in Patna
July 28, 2000, 15:30 Hrs (IST)

Patna: A fortnight after sacked Bihar Minister of State for Cooperatives Lalit Kumar Yadav was declared an offender in the torture case of two dalits, the Patna police have procured the warrant to attach the property of Yadav and four others accused in case.

Yadav and the other four have been absconding since a formal case of kidnapping and atrocities on two members of the scheduled caste was filed against the sacked minister on July 8.

The minister had held captive two dalit youths---Deena Nath Biatha and Karu Karu Ram- -- for over a month at his official residence and subjected them to inhuman treatment. The nails of Baitha were pulled out with pliers and he was forced to drink urine by the henchmen of the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA from Manigachi in Darbhanga district of north Bihar.

Lalit Kumar Yadav has gone into hiding along with eight policemen who had been provided to him as a minister. The policemen surfaced only after two weeks when criminal proceedings were initiated against them.
