19 killed in Kerala rain

Thiruvananthapuram: The death toll in heavy rains lashing Kerala since last week has risen to 19 as more casualties were reported from different parts of the state on Sunday.

Four persons were reported drowned in Kollam district and one each from Kozhikode and Kottayam, while two persons were reported missing, police said.

Hundreds of families are still living in relief camps across the state. About 50 houses have been fully damaged and 200, partially.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister E K Nayanar on Sunday sought from the center emergency relief of Rs 100 crore and visit by a high-level official team to assess the extent of damage.
