Srinagar: The striking doctors at the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences
(SKIMS), Soura have decided to call off their strike and resume normal duties from
Monday.
This follows a meeting between a nine-member deputation of senior doctors
representing the executive committee of the faculty forum and the acting chief
minister, Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Shah here.
The deputation called on him to apprise him about the demands of the striking
doctors and reasons leading to their strike.
The minister assured the doctors that their genuine demands would be considered.
He said while the government would like to provide the same emoluments and
facilities to doctors in the state as are available to their counterparts in Delhi
or elsewhere, they should also understand the financial crunch facing the state.
He, however, assured that it would be his endeavor to see that their genuine demands
are met.
Shah appealed to them to call off their strike immediately so that people are not
put to any hardship. The striking doctors informed the minister that they were
calling off the strike.
