Moscow: Russia on July 1 said it expects Pakistan to stick to its commitment to
crack down on terrorist outfits in the country even as it ruled out an early visit
to Moscow by President Pervez Musharraf.
"Russia expects and hopes that Pakistan would continue combat with the extremist
elements, which have infiltrated into the country from Afghanistan and also its own
terrorist organisations," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov
said.
Losyukov, currently in Jakarta, told ITAR-TASS that Musharraf would pay an official
visit to Russia "but not before autumn".
Welcoming the easing of Indo-Pak standoff as a result of international efforts
and "own reflections in Islamabad and Delhi", Losyukov, however, added that the
situation in the Indian sub-continent remains complex and would continue to remain
till the solution of "old" problem of Kashmir.
