'Botched US raid bombed more Afghan villages'
Tuesday, July 2 2002 15:04 Hrs (IST)

Kabul: Afghan officials on July 2 said that American warplanes had bombed more villages in Central Uruzgan province, where scores of wedding guests were killed in an apparently botched US raid two days earlier.

More villages were bombed that night (June 30) and also during the day on July 1," Raz Mohammad, brother of Uruzgan's Governor Yar Mohammad said.

"There are houses and villages which have been hit and there are believed to be more casualties," he said, speaking by satellite telephone from Uruzgan province.

Raz Mohammad said officials had been sent to the affected areas to assess damage.

The US military and Afghan officials were investigating the June 30 night bombing, which local officials say killed 40 people at a wedding party in the village of Kakrakai in Uruzgan's Dehrawad district.
