Bangalore: Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has bagged an order from Rotem, South Korea, for manufacture of 180 electrical multiple units (EMU coaches) which will be supplied to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

BEML will take up the production of coaches at its Bangalore unit, a BEML release said.

The contract with Rotem was signed by BEML chairman and managing director Dr K Aprameyan during his visit to Seoul on June 28.

As per the contract, BEML will get the technology for the state-of-the-art stainless- steel coaches with fibre-reinforced plastic interiors. The rust-proof coaches will have a longer life and are light-weight.

With metro-rail project contemplated in other metros such as Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, BEML is geared up to supply these coaches indigenously. These modern coaches are taken by BEML for manufacture for the first time in the country, the release added.
