Chennai: Asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would vigorously pursue its
agenda, party president Venkaiah Naidu on July 2 said that it was, however, aware of
the demands of a coalition government.

"The party's ideology remains. We will follow our agenda vigorously. The Centre will
also implement the NDA agenda," he told reporters at the airport on July 2 night on
his maiden visit to the city after taking over as BJP president.
"In the one hand will be the BJP janda (flag) and in the other the NDA agenda,"
Naidu said.
On the Opposition parties' criticism that Cabinet reshuffle and expansion carried
out by Prime Minister A B Vajpayee on July 1 was discriminatory against BJP's
allies, he accused them of "suffering from BJP phobia".
"I can only sympathise with them. We have not shown any discrimination," he said and
pointed out that several key portfolios like the Defence, commerce, railways and
power were with the BJP's allies.
Naidu said that the Opposition parties had no other issue to confront the government
with and therefore wanted to create misunderstanding between BJP and its allies.
