Bangalore: The Karnataka Cabinet was expected to take a view at its meeting on July
6 on Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's request for release of Cauvery water to
Tamil Nadu, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, D B Chandregowda said on
July 5.
He said under the prevailing conditions, the state was not in a position to release
water, as none of the reservoirs in the Cauvery river basin, KRS, Harangi, Hemvathy
and Kabini had water.
Gowda said that the rains have begun in the Cauvery catchment area only two days ago.
He said that the Cauvery River Monitoring Committee was free to inspect the state's
reservoir to assess the water storage position.
