Mumbai: Film star Sanjay Dutt, on July 5, denied his links with the conspirators of
1993 bomb blasts and said he was falsely implicated in the alleged crime.
Making forceful submissions to support his defence for the fourth day in succession,
Dutt's lawyers Rajendra Singh, Satish Maneshinde and Farhaha Shah argued that
prosecution had not submitted any evidence to show the actor's involvement in the
bomb blasts.
Referring to prosecution's allegation that Dutt had links with absconding accused
Annes Ibrahim, the lawyers said there was no evidence to show that the arms and
ammunition used in the blasts had been sent at the behest of Annes.
They also disputed the prosecution's charge that Dutt had talked to Dubai-based
Annes Ibrahim on telephone from his residence.
The lawyers also harped on the evidence of 'panch' witnesses and pointed out
discrepancies therein which could not stand the test of law in the absence of
independent corroboration.
For instance, Inspector Wallyshetty said in evidence that he had arrested co-accused
Yusuf Nullwalla after Dutt identified him as the person to whom he had urged for
destruction of AK-56 rifle.
However, a 'panch' witness said Yusuf was handcuffed when he was brought before
Inspector Wallyshetty indicating that he was already arrested. If that was so then
how could Inspector Wallyshetty arrest Yusuf for the second time, the lawyers
asked.
