Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government on June 5 denied reports, in a section of the
press, on the findings of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) on the February 27
Godhra train carnage, saying the media reports were "misleading and out of context".
A spokesman of the state Home Department in a statement said the reports were aimed
at "shielding the culprits involved in the crime in which coach S-6 of the Sabarmati
Express was set ablaze, killing at least 59 people, mostly Ram sevaks".
A section of the press had reported that the investigation by FSL had found that the
inflammable substance used to set ablaze a coach of Sabarmati Express was probably
thrown from inside the coach and not from outside.
Attempts were being made to provide help to those involved in the crime by using
certain parts of the FSL report and misguide the investigation, the spokesman
added.
