Gurez (Kashmir): Al-Qaida operatives were present across the line of control (LoC) at several camps North of Kishanganga river but there was no information about their presence in the Kashmir Valley, a senior Army official said.

Information on the presence of al-Qaida and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants was based on authentic report, Brigadier Gurmeet Kanwal, Commander of Police Brigade posted at Gurez sector, said.

However, he said that he had no information about the presence of al-Qaida in Kashmir Valley. "We have not apprehended or killed any of them in Gurez sector," he told a group of visiting reporters on July 4.

"We have confirmed reports that a large number of terrorists are waiting at the camps across the line of control (LoC) to be inducted into the Valley from North of Kishanganga river," he said.

The militant camps were located at Nekrul, Taubeth, Suti and Kharasi in Pakistan- occupied Kashmir, he said. The number of militants was estimated to be around 150, he added.
