Mumbai: The trial involving alleged nexus of underworld with film financier Bharat
Shah, producer Nasim Rizvi and two others resumed in special court on July 5, with
the deposition of deputy commissioner of police R D Shinde.
Shinde recorded the confession of Nasim Rizvi, who had implicated the other accused.
In a related development, designated judge A P Bhangale rejected the plea of Rizvi
to adjourn the trial until he recovered from a spondylitis problem. Rizvi has
undergone an operation and is now recuperating in a city hospital.
The court, however, exempted Rizvi from appearance on medical ground. Shah, Abdul
Rahim Allah Baksh and Bhatija were in the dock. Shinde told defence lawyer Majeed
Memon in cross-examination that he had recorded Rizvi's confession in his capacity
as DCP. He also disclosed that this was his first experience in recording confession
although he had seen other confessions recorded by police.
Shinde said he was already aware of the provisions laid down for recording
confessions. However, he had refreshed himself by going through these provisions
before recording the confession of Rizvi.
