Mumbai: The SENSEX opened marginally higher and continued to fluctuate narrowly in
line with divergent trends at early stages on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on
July 5 on alternate bouts of buying and selling.
The BSE sensitive index opened marginally up at 3,322.14 as against a close of
3,316.77 on July 4 and later moved in a range between 3,334.87 and 3,316.00 before
being quoted at 3,323.78 at 10:30 hours (IST).
Though the sentiment seemed to be aided by the consistent net investments by foreign
institutional investors (FIIs) since June 25 onwards, market sources said buying
support is more scrip-specific than based on some positive factor.
Meanwhile, a smart rally on Wall Street that lifted the NASDAQ composite index by
about 22 points and the Dow Jones industrial averages by 47.22 points on July 4
night prompted a sharp upsurge in South East Asian markets on July 5 morning.
