Sukhram to challenge bribe verdict in Delhi HC
Friday, July 5 2002 15:21 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Former Union Communications Minister Sukh Ram, sentenced to three years imprisonment by a City Court on July 5 in a corruption case, would file appeal in the Delhi High Court against his conviction, his counsel D S Patial said.

"The appeal will be filed within the stipulated time," Patial said after the judgement was pronounced by Additional Sessions Judge V K Jain.

The trial court has allowed time to the convicted persons to file appeals by August five and kept the sentence in abeyance till that date. They were granted bail by the court subject to their executing bail bond of Rs one lakh each.

While the former Communications Minister and Ramarao were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment each, Ghosh was sentenced to two years imprisonment. Besides, the court has slapped heavy fine on the trio.

Ghosh's counsel Satish Tamta also said that he would be filing the appeal in the High Court before August 5.
