New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh on July 8 brushed aside
reports that Union Minister Uma Bharti might be asked to head the state Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) unit.
"She is welcome," Singh said when asked by reports as to how he viewed reports that
the senior BJP leader might be asked to head the state unit, ahead of the
forthcoming Assembly elections.
To a question whether Uma Bharti was being sent back to the organisation to
strengthen fundamentalist forces in the state, the Congress leader said, "Their
fortress has already been demolished."
Singh was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a workshop on "Community Health
Insurance Scheme of Madhya Pradesh".
Asked whether his special thrust on issues like health, nutrition, drinking water
and literacy could be termed as his poll preparations, the Chief Minister
said, "Preparations are always made during the peace time."
