Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on July 12 sought a ban on the
Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) for its open support to the outlawed
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Asserting that there was no political motive behind the arrest of MDMK leader Vaiko,
she told reporters here that MDMK had been continuously supporting the "deadly and
treacherous" organisation LTTE, which had been banned by most countries".
MDMK, Jayalalithaa, said, in its recent executive committee meeting had
openly stated that the party's very existence and its participation in the
Union government was to serve the Sri Lankan Tamils and had
declared that it would continue to support the LTTE.
"They (MDMK) had no plans for either the welfare of the country or
Tamil Nadu. They do not want to do anything for India. It is a dangerous
trend and not good for the country. We will initiate steps to get MDMK
banned," she said.
