MP BJP chief Verma says he's ready to quit on demand
Friday, July 12 2002 16:15 Hrs (IST)

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh BJP president Vikram Verma on July 12 said he was ready to resign in case the party high command wanted to replace him and indicated the possibility of new state unit president's name being announced this evening.

“I would resign from my post the moment party high command wishes me to do so,” Verma told sources on phone from New Delhi adding, “It is possible that the name of new state BJP president can be announced after a meeting of eight senior BJP leaders from the state with party national president Venkaiah Naidu this evening.”

There has been speculation for quite some time that Verma is to be replaced by Union Sports Minister Uma Bharti in view of the Assembly elections slated to be held in the state in November next year.

Asked if some BJP leaders from the state are opposed to his being replaced by Bharti, he said, “I can only say that I am prepared to resign although others can have their own views.”
