Mumbai: A visibly anguished and hurt Dr P C Alexander, who filed his nomination
papers to the Rajya Sabha on July 15, admitted that he had tendered his resignation
as Maharashtra Governor after he had been upset with the Congress opposition to his
nomination in the run up to the Presidential polls.
"I would be dishonest if I say I was not hurt by the Congress' opposition in the run
up to the Presidential polls," the former Maharashtra Governor told reporters.
Contrary to the earlier impression created that Alexander had put in his papers as
he had been sulking against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government,
Alexander said that he had expected full support of the Congress going by his past
association with former Congress Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv
Gandhi.
"I do not know if Sonia Gandhi's ears were poisoned," Alexander, who had earlier
emerged as the front runner as the NDA nominee, added.
