Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Governor P C Alexander on July 15 filed his nomination
papers for Rajya Sabha elections as an independent candidate.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar had declared his party's support
to Alexander.
Alexander was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and NCP state
chief Babanrao Pachpute at the time of filing nominations.
July 15 is the last day for filing nominations for the July 25 Rajya Sabha poll. The
seat fell vacant due to death of NCP member Mukesh Patel.
Alexander resigned on July 8 as Governor of Maharashtra, eight months ahead of
expiry of his term.
