Srinagar: Two Army personnel, who defied regulations and left their camp in North
Kashmir on July 14 night for a nearby village and caught after a scuffle by the
villagers who mistook them for terrorists, were taken into custody, a Defence
spokesman said on July 15.
Meanwhile, the residents of Delina village on July 15 staged protest demonstration
alleging "highhandedness" by the jawans.
Two soldiers of Delina Camp had gone at around 23:00 hours (IST) on July 14 to
Delina village in Baramulla district, which is out of bound. Mistaking them for
terrorists, the villagers tried to catch them and after a scuffle overpowered the
duo and informed the post commander, Delhi, the spokesman said.
The post commander immediately rushed to the scene and recognising them as Army
personnel from his own post took them into custody and assured the villagers that
exemplary disciplinary action would be taken against them, he said.
In the morning the villagers gathered on the highway near the Delina Camp demanding
action against the two soldiers.
Baramulla deputy commissioner and senior superintendent of police along with the
commanding officer met the protestors and reiterated that exemplary punishment would
be taken against the defaulters. The villagers would be intimated about the
punishment, they assured them and villagers dispersed.
The residents of the village alleged that three Army men forced their entry into the
house of a civilian and demanded food and shelter, posing as militants. However, the
house owner with the help of a neighbour, locked them in a room and informed the
army and subsequently the soldiers were taken away, they said.
