Hajipur (Bihar): Train services came to a standstill in North Bihar on July 15
following a 12-hour Hajipur bandh called by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vaishali
unit to protest Trinamool Congress' opposition to create East Central Railways zone
by bifurcating Eastern Railway.
Rail traffic on Gorakhpur-Hajipur-Muzaffarpur and Hajipur-Muzaffarpur sections was
totally disrupted as bandh supporters sat on the tracks near Hajipur station,
Railway sources said.
The activists also tampered with the Railway tracks near the spot to enforce the
bandh, the sources said.
Shops and major business establishments downed shutters, educational institutions
remained closed and vehicular traffic remained thin in the North Bihar town,
official sources said.
Bus services on Patna- Muzaffarpur national highway was stalled as BJP activists put
up blockades and smashed window-panes of a few of them, they said.
A procession headed by Hajipur MLA and BJP leader Nityanand Rai was taken out in the
town, they added.
