Mumbai: Former chairman of Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) S D Karnik,
arrested in the multi-crore MPSC scam along with seven others, was on July 15 night
admitted to government owned J J hospital after he complained of chest pain, a top
ACB official said on July 15.
Karnik, a sitting member of UPSC, was feeling uneasy and at 23:00 hours (IST) he
complained of chest pain. He was taken to J J hospital and admitted there, as
certain tests had to be performed, the officer said, adding that doctors were
attending on him.
Karnik was on July 14 arrested and remanded to police custody till July 20. Before
arresting him, ACB had grilled him thrice in connection with the alleged scam and
raided his two houses here in his presence that yielded recovery of incriminating
material.
Along with Karnik, Avinash Sanas, private secretary to Maharashtra minister for
social welfare, was also remanded to police custody till July 20. He was arrested on
July 13.
Altogether eight accused have been arrested in MPSC scam. The others are S G Sarode,
controller of examination, MPSC, Eknath Vegere and Sunil Patil, Mantralaya
employees, Farooq Kadge, Computer expert and broker Manisha Nichat.
Karnik is charged with conspiring with other accused to manipulate answer sheets
resulting in misconducting of 1999 examinations during which he was the MPSC
chairman.
