Jammu: Shops and commercial establishments remained closed and vehicles were off the
road as a bandh was being observed in the city to protest July 13 attack by ultras
in Qasim Nagar, in which 28 slum dwellers were killed.
Official sources said attendance in government offices and banks was thin due to non
availability of vehicular traffic.
The bandh was called by state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu Joint
Students Federation (JJSF) and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party
(JKNPP).
The state administration has ordered the closure of schools and colleges, they said,
adding however, all the examinations scheduled for the day shall be held as
scheduled.
Reports said that bandh was also observed in Ramban, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar towns of
Jammu.
Meanwhile, pradesh BJP leaders including state president, D K Kotwal, have demanded
the resignation of the Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.
In a statement they also demanded imposition of Governor's Rule in the state. They
urged the people to observe restraint and maintain communal harmony.
