Mumbai: Close on the heels of arrest of former Maharashtra Public Service Commission
(MPSC) chairman S D Karnik and a private secretary to state minister for social
welfare, Avinash Sanas, one more person was on July 15 apprehended on charges of
"hatching a conspiracy" in the multi-crore MPSC scam.
The arrested person was an employee of a canteen located close to the MPSC office,
Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sources said.
The sources, however, refused to divulge the exact role of the canteen employee in
the entire scam.
This has been the ninth arrest affected by the ACB in the case that has opened a
Pandora's box about the grave malpractices followed in the examination conducted by
the MPSC for various posts.
Karnik and Sanas were arrested on July 14 night while one of the accused Dy SP Baban
Kadam has so far been suspended in connection with the scam.
According to ACB sources, nearly 398 answer sheets had been replaced by the accused
in the examination conducted for the post of sub-inspectors, sales tax inspectors and
assistants for Maharashtra state secretariat, Mantralaya.
