New Delhi: India on July 16 denied that it has requested Sri Lanka to carry any
message on its behalf to Pakistan but said New Delhi's concerns over infiltration of
terrorists from across the border were conveyed to Colombo during External Affairs
Minister Yashwant Sinha's visit to the island nation last week.
Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando, now on a visit to Pakistan, said that
he has conveyed India's concerns over cross-border terrorism during a meeting with
President Pervez Musharraf.
"I conveyed to the President (Pervez Musharraf) the concerns of the Indian Foreign
Minister but I do not see a role for myself as a mediator between the two
countries," Fernando told reporters.
Asked whether India had made any request to Sri Lanka to convey to Pakistan concerns
over cross-border terrorism, an External Affairs Ministry spokesperson told
reporters ''there is no communication being carried by Sri Lanka on our behalf. We
flatly and unambiguously deny that any such request was made to the Sri Lankan
government'', she said.
