New Delhi: Government is concerned about certain aspects of China-Pakistan
relationship, which "adversely affect our security", Minister of State for External
Affairs Digvijay Singh informed the Rajya Sabha on July 18.
This includes Sino-Pak Defence co-operation, including in nuclear weapons and
missile development programme, Singh said in a written reply.
"We have made known our concerns to the Chinese side," he said.
The minister said the government is committed to development of friendly and good
neighbourly relations with China on the basis of principles of Panchsheel, mutual
sensitivity to each others concerns and equity.
He said this was underscored during the visit of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji to India
in January 2002, the visit of External Affairs Minister to China in March-April
2002year and during the meeting of the Prime Minister and Chinese President Jiang
Zemin last month.
The minister said after the Kaluchak massacre in Jammu and Kashmir, the Chinese
Foreign Office spokesman stated, "the position of the Chinese government is very
clear. We wish to express our strong condemnation and our sympathies to the families
of the injured people".
