Bangalore: Timex on July 18 held a preview of the specially designed "Timex
Commemorative Watch", which would be presented to the winner of the coveted Wisden
Indian Cricketer-of-the-Century Award in London on July 23.
Timex has also designed specially customised watches for the 16 nominees for the
special award that incorporates individual photographs of each of them, Vikram
Arora, regional manager, South, Timex Watches Ltd, told reporters in Bangalore.
The diamond-studded watch is hand crafted specifically for the Wisden Indian
Cricketer of the Century award, he said.
Former cricketers B S Chandrashekhar, one of the 16 nominees, and Brijesh Patel
unveiled the watch.
Asked about the present day spinners and spinners of his times, Chandrashekhar
said, "In our days we did not have so many One-dayers. Today's spinners have to cope
with both five-day matches and One-dayers. It is good that they are adapting to
both."
Patel spoke about the training being imparted by the cricket academy here and said
it was concentrating on "mental toughness and physical fitness". "Skill is not the
issue as there is enough talent," he said.
