Modi resigns, Cabinet urges Assembly dissolution

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Cabinet on July 19 decided to recommend dissolution of state Assembly.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, sources said.

Guj Cabinet urges Governor for dissolution of Assembly Meanwhile, Narendra Modi is reported to have submitted his resignation as the Chief Minister.

The move was seen as an attempt to force the Election Commission's hand to hold early polls in the state. The term of the Assembly is due to expire in March 2003.

After the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister rushed to the Raj Bhawan to forward the Cabinet recommendation for Assembly dissolution to Governor S S Bhandari.
