Barcelona: Brazil World Cup winner Rivaldo is leaving Spanish giants Barcelona, the
club revealed in a joint statement with the player on Monday.
The 1999 World-Footballer-of-the-Year and the Spanish first division side stressed
the decision had been reached amicably. The 30-year-old striker leaves the Catalan
outfit with one year of his contract to run.
He has been linked with a move to Italian side Lazio in recent weeks, though there
was no immediate word on his future following the statement on Monday.
Another option is a move to Barcelona's fierce rivals, Real Madrid, although Real
have distanced themselves with a transfer. Breaking news of the split on their
website Barcelona said, "Barcelona and Rivaldo announce that on Monday they reached
agreement which brings to an end a five year professional relationship.
"Both parties consider the decision is in their mutual interest."
