New Delhi: Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon on July 22 as a determined
Opposition demanded suspension of Question Hour to discuss political development in
Gujarat where the Assembly has been dissolved.
Sensing the mood, Chairman Krishan Kant adjourned the House till 1200 (IST) hours
after rejecting the Congress demand for suspension of Question Hour.
Kant said he had already allowed discussion on Gujarat to be taken up at 1200 (IST)
hours and members should allow the Question Hour.
Congress Party of India (Marxists) member Nilotpal Basu said he wanted to reverse
his earlier demand for taking up discussion on Gujarat at 1200 (IST) hours and now
wanted it to be taken up after suspension of Question Hour.
Earlier, Leader of the House and Congress member Manmohan Singh blamed the Central
government for dissolution of the Assembly in the state and said Gujarat should be
brought under President's rule.
