Kolkata: A Bangladeshi was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) during an
infiltration bid while the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) fired several rounds at the
Indian border guards near Haridaspur along the India-Bangladesh international border
in West Bengal's North 24-Parganas district on July 24.
The BSF fired one round killing a Bangladeshi when about 20 intruders tried to enter
Indian territory despite a warning, Additional DIG (G) of BSF Ramesh Singh said.
The other Bangladeshis then fled taking away the body of the person killed, Singh
said.
Immediately after this, the BDR fired four to five rounds from their observation
post, he said.
It was not known why the BDR opened fire. There was, however, no injury to BSF
jawans.
He said it appeared that the BDR panicked after the BSF opened fire.
Senior BSF officials were in touch with the BDR officials and a flag meeting was
likely, Singh said.
