New Delhi: As a prelude to India and China exchanging demarcation maps on the
Western and Eastern sectors, Army Chief General S Padmanabhan embarks on a 10-day
visit to China next week.
Terming Sino-Indian relations as having "vastly stabilised", Padmanabhan said unlike
ties with Pakistan, New Delhi's relations with Beijing were being conducted in a
civilised manner.
He said during his visit at the head of high level delegation, the two sides would
review the progress made by the joint working group on the boundary issue.
Referring to the recent confidence building measures, the Army Chief said both the
sides had expressed keenness to strictly abide by these.
"Though for the past nine years there may have been transgressions in either side,
the border has been quiet. We are taking up all issues in a civilised manner," he
said.
Padmanabhan said both New Delhi and Beijing had expressed commitment to holding on
to status quo on the border and leave the resolution of all boundary related issues
to across the table talks.
