New Delhi: The first round of talks between the Centre's interlocutor for devolution of powers to Jammu and Kashmir Arun Jaitley and the state government's representative G M Shah was held in New Delhi on July 25 to kickstart the exercise to elicit views of the state leaders.

During the one and a half hour talks, the two leaders also discussed ways to restore peace in the trouble torn state, sources said.

Shah said that the Centre should understand the feelings of the people of the state who always considered it to be an integral part of India.

Jaitley was assisted by officials of the Home Ministry while Shah along with some others participated in the discussions.

The move to hold the talks was decided after discussions between the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and senior ministers in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, the sources said.
