Centre asks Mizo CM to broker Naga peace talks
Friday, July 26 2002 18:22 Hrs (IST)

Aizawl: The Mizoram Chief Minister, Zoramthanga, on July 26 met the Deputy Prime Minister, L K Advani, in New Delhi and had a detailed discussion on the ongoing peace process in which he was asked to get involved, an official press release on July 26 said.

Zoramthanga was requested by the Centre as well as the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) leadership to broker peace between the two parties following which he went to Bangkok and met NSCN leaders including Th Muivah and Issac Swu two times in the Thai capital.

The Mizo Chief Minister, however, said that his role in the Naga peace deal was limited only to create mutual trust between the two sides.

He urged Advani during the latest meeting on July 26 to expedite shifting of the Assam Rifles from the Centre of Aizawl city to nearby Zokhawsang area and to immediately create a separate cadre of Central services for Mizoram.
