New Delhi: Faced with increasing competition from private channels, Doordarshan (DD)
is now focusing on marketing efforts and has set up a Marketing Advisory Committee
under chairmanship of Vijay Jindal, an expert in the field.
The committee will make recommendations to the director general on various issues
and policies relating to marketing of Doordarshan and its positioning in the
broadcasting field, a Prasar Bharati release said on July 27.
The Marketing Advisory Committee will meet from time to time and give suggestions on
evolving an effective marketing strategy for Doordarshan and provide a framework for
positioning of DD channels as a brand and advise on effective advertising and
publicity campaigns.
The other marketing and advertising experts on the committee are Sunit Duggal,
Jagdeep Bakshi, Murad Ali Baig, Roda Mehta and Satish Mehta. Doordarshan's deputy
director general (commercial), deputy director general (audience research) will also
be members while director (commercial) will be the convener of the committee.
Doordarshan has set up marketing divisions in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore while
plans are afoot to open marketing offices in Delhi, Kolkatta, Hyderabad and
Thiruvananthapuram.
Doordarshan has already constituted a Creative Advisory Committee under the
chairmanship of Alyque Padamsee. br>
