Islamabad: Amidst hectic international efforts to de-escalate Indo-Pak tension and
end cross-border terrorism into India, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on July
27 struck a hardline asserting that his government would not "compromise" on Kashmir
issue.
"Pakistan would never compromise on its just stand on Kashmir and would always
support the UN Security Council resolutions calling for the future of Kashmir to be
decided according to the wishes of Kashmiri people," he told country's top Army
commanders, on the eve of US Secretary of State Colin
Powell's visit to Islamabad on July 28.
These comments followed his meeting with EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana,
which included detailed discussions on Indo-Pak relations and situation in
Kashmir.
Musharraf congratulated Army commanders over successful completion of 10-day long
war games on July 26, Pakistan's biggest in three decades.
The military ruler also briefed them about his talks with foreign dignitaries
visiting Islamabad, especially from USA, Lebnon, Iran, UK and Sri Lanka, a Defence
press release said.
