Insurgants kill 5, kidnap another in Tripura
Saturday, July 27 2002 14:36 Hrs (IST)

Agartala: Five persons including the parents and two brothers of a surrendered All Tiger Tiger Force (ATTF) militant were killed and another person kidnapped by the insurgents in two separate incidents in Tripura, police said on July 27.

According to police two insurgents of ATTF, Swapan Debbarma and Balendra Debbarma surrendered to Border Security Force (BSF) at Belcherra in West Tripura on July 26 with AK-56 rifle. Swapan after surrendering expressed his apprehension that the ATTF might attack his family members and sought security for them.

Police then rushed to his house at remote Belcherra village to rescue the family members but before the police could reach the ultras had kidnapped his parents and two brothers.

Police said that they recovered the bullet-riddled bodies of the kidnapped parents and brother of Swapan from Nofrai a neighbouring village July 27.

In a separate incident, a group of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) insurgents raided a house at Ganganagar village in North Tripura district early on July 27 and kidnapped two brothers at gun point.

Police said one of them was shot dead by the ultras when he tried to flee from their custody.
