Mayawati to expand ministry on August 1
Saturday, July 27 2002 17:59 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on July 27 announced that her ministry would be expanded on August 1.

"The Bahujan Samajwadi Party-Bharatiya Janata Party (BSP-BJP) coalition ministry would be expanded on August 1 and the decision has already been conveyed to Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri," an official communiqué said, quoting the Chief Minister.

Mayawati had told a news conference recently that she had "no problems" in carrying out the expansion and she would announce the date for expansion as soon as she got the list of the possible BJP ministers.

Senior BJP leader and Urban Development Minister Lalji Tandon had urged the Chief Minister to fix a date for ministry expansion and said the list of the BJP and its alliance partners would be made available thereafter.

Tandon had recently shot off a letter to Mayawati urging her to expand the ministry around July 28.
