Chennai: For the first time, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi
July 29 night came out in support of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK)
chief Vaiko, when he said invoking the provisions of Prevention of Terrorism Act
(POTA) for his (Vaiko) arrest was the "misuse" of the legislation.
"The entire country is aware of the misuse of POTA to arrest Vaiko," he told
reporters.
He said the "misuse" had only strengthened the DMK's demand for amendments to the
POTA, adding that there were reports that National Democratic Alliance (NDA)
convenor George Fernandes, after the NDA's meeting at New Delhi, had said that the
constituents wanted some amendments to the Act.
