Infiltration bid foiled, seven killed in Kashmir

Srinagar: Three Pakistani intruders were killed as Army frustrated yet another attempt of heavily-armed militants to sneak into Kashmir valley through Kupwara sector, a police spokesman said on July 30.

The infiltration bid was scuttled when the alert troops observed movement of a group of militants in Eagle base Chowkibal in Vilgam area of Kupwara on July 29 night. The infiltrators were challenged and in the ensuing encounter, three of them were killed, the spokesman said.

He said two of the deceased have been identified as major Javaid and Rashid Rehman, both residents of Muzaffarabad area of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

With the killing of the three militants, the number of Pakistani intruders killed near the Line of Control in Kupwara sector during the past three days has gone up to eight. Five militants were killed in three separate bids to sneak into the valley since July 28.

Meanwhile, a self-styled district commander of al-Badr outfit and a ruling National Conference activist were among four persons killed in Anantnag and Kupwara districts of Kashmir since July 29 night.

Giving details, the spokesman said security forces shot dead al-Badr commander identified as Mansoor Ahmad alias Zaibullah, a resident of Multan area in Pakistan at village Kreeri-Nowpora near Dooru in Anantnag district of South Kashmir July 29 night.

A civilian, Mohammad Hussain Dar was also injured when he was caught in the shootout and has been hospitalised, the spokesman said.

A National Conference activist, Ghulam Mohammad Dar was shot dead by militants at his village at Lssar-Chawalgam in Kokernag area of Anantnag on July 30, the spokesman said, adding he was a contractor.

Militants also killed another contractor, Mohammad Ahsan inside his house at Gohan- Vailoo in Anantnag on July 29 night, he said.

The spokesman said bullet-riddled body of an 11th class student, Shahzad Ahmad Tantray was recovered from Tulwari forest in border district of Kupwara on July 30.

The boy, a resident of village Hanga-Mawar in Handwara had been kidnapped and subsequently killed by militants July 29 night, the spokesman said.
