Washington: A "Vedic City" has been established in the United States by followers of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Godman, whose discourses on application of ancient Indian wisdom in the modern world has captured the imagination of people around the globe.

Situated in Fairfield, Iowa, the city has been built strictly in accordance
with "vaastu", with every home facing East, to gather in the nourishing rays of the
early morning. Two miles South are two golden domes of the Maharishi University of
Management, where residents go to meditate in the morning and late afternoon.
What is more, money tendered in the new city is the "Raam" currency, as well as the
American Dollar, while the city charter is the constitution of the Universe, defined
as the "Unified field of natural law, the will of God", which administers the ever-
expanding universe with perfect order and without a problem.
Currently, the new city is inhabited by about 200 persons, most of who are from
professions like medicine, teaching and business.
A release from the Maharishi University of Management said the city is preparing to
celebrate its first anniversary and is likely to be participated by around
800 "yogic flyers" (practitioners of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's special meditation
techniques) scattered around the world.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi claims that all the crises confronting the world can be
resolved only through an inner transformation of man, within whom "is the light of
God".
