Deesa (Banaskantha district): Stepping up a campaign in Gujarat, awaiting Assembly
poll notification, Congress on August 4 lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
for "severe power and water crisis and drought conditions in the state" and said
to "save Gujarat, BJP has to be driven out".
Speaking at a massive rally of farmers in this North Gujarat town, state Pradesh
Congress (GPCC) president Shankarsinh Vaghela said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),
which had come to power by promising 18 hours of uninterrupted power supply, has not
been able to provide power for even one hour to farmers without disruption.
"In fact, during Narendra Modi's tenure as Chief Minister, Gujarat has not witnessed
production of even one additional MW of power," said Vaghela.
He said there was a severe drinking water crisis facing the state and drought
situation was alarming and attacked the BJP government for taking these issues
lightly.
'Despite the state being in the grip of drought, the state government was dithering
on declaring it drought-hit which in the process was depriving it of central
assistance," Vaghela said.
