Mumbai: A special court has summoned on August 5 a well-known film personality, who
claimed to have gathered clinching evidence in regard to alleged involvement of
actor Sanjay Dutt in 1993 bomb blast case.
The court has not disclosed the identity of the person on the latter's request
fearing threat to life.
The summons were issued by designated judge P D Kode on July 24.
The person had earlier filed an affidavit claiming that there was enough evidence
against Dutt for his alleged role in 1993 bomb blast case.
The film personality said in the affidavit that Dutt had retracted his statement at
the instance of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which allegedly wanted to
save him in his case. Besides, documents running into several hundred pages have
been tendered to the court by the person.
Designated judge P D Kode has directed the registrar to summon the person on August
5 and specify the material relevant to the trial in the 1993 bomb blast case.
Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said that the affidavit filed by the person
was not substantive and contained bold allegations. The prosecution was also not
allowed to go through the files tendered by the person.
Contending that the affidavit did not specify the evidence against Dutt, the
prosecutor urged the judge to summon the film personality in the court.
Dutt would be defended by his lawyer Farhana Shah.
